Emily Tasinato (theSquare Research Fellow) shares her important research on the Strait of Hormuz in Iran’s foreign policy and its position in the geopolitics of the region. She begins by looking at how her interest developed and how she approached her research: first by looking at how the Persian Gulf was central to the Portuguese and British empires and then a comparison of policy under the Pahlavi regime and Islamic Republic. She examines the militarisation of the region and its impact on shipping. She reveals the continuation of policy and attitude, and looks at how Iran plays a central role in the geopolitics of the Persian Gulf.
