On April 6, 1917, the United States declared war on Germany and officially entered World War I. President Woodrow Wilson won the support of the majority of congressmen by proclaiming “a war to make the world safe for democracy”. The American military contribution was as decisive as the economic one, since the Allies had exhausted their means. Certainly, this date marks the rise of the United States as a global power.
