A space by LORENA STELLA MARTINI
How often do we talk about women within Islam? Yet, how often do we look at this issue adopting women’s points of view?
“L’Islam au féminin” (2019) by Nadja Frenz is a documentary that depicts Islam from the perspective of women: several female artists, writers, journalists, activists and academics, either Muslim or coming from Muslim majority countries, offer their personal and heterogenous insights about much-debated issues such as patriarchy within Islam, gender equality and women’s rights, sexuality, public space and secularism. The viewer is thus presented with an alternative, multi-faceted and diverse framework to approach Islam.
The documentary, dubbed in French, is available on ARTE.tv until April 30th.
